3RZ LCE Pro Modified Turbo Long Block
When presented with the challenge of creating a 4 cylinder engine capable of 300+ HP naturally aspirated and 1500+ HP in a turbo charged trim LC Engineering rose to the challenge. After many attempts to utilize the stock timing chain configuration LCE decided to start from scratch and create our exclusive belt drive system. To accomplish this task LCE removed the front timing cover and chopped the whole front section of the cylinder head off to accommodate the belt drive system. After these modifications, we then created all billet aluminum front covers for the head and block. When it came time to cover up the top and bottom of the engine, LCE took no shortcuts. We created a billet aluminum dry sump oil pan that becomes a structural part of the block. By modifying the stock main caps, LCE was able to bolt the pan directly to them using a custom main cap stud kit. Then LCE made a billet valve cover to top off the entire package.
Internally, LCE left nothing untouched. Starting by completely matching the block to our specs including boring, honing, decking, line boring and line honing the crank journals, modifying the block to run without the stock balance shafts and even de-burring the block for better oil shedding. Depending on your application LCE then assembles the bottom end using custom titanium or chromoly connecting rods. These rods are then topped off with custom-built forged pistons ranging from 7.0:1 to 13.0:1+ compression ratios. LCE can build this engine as a 2.7L using a highly modified 3RZ crankshaft or it can be de-stroked to 2.5L by using a modified 2RZ crankshaft. After all this work on the bottom end it was time to put some attention into the cylinder head. After chopping off the front, LCE's head pro's then open up the bucket bores to accommodate a 35mm cam bucket (stock size is 31mm), this larger bucket is necessary when you run cam profiles of over .500" lift! LCE's highly skilled cylinder head department then ports the heads out to flow over 325cfm! Every 3RZ billet head is then put on the flow bench to verify proper and equal flow through all cylinders. The head is then fitted for dual valve springs (LCE uses the same valve springs that run in IRL Indy cars) titanium retainers and huge 40mm intake and 33mm exhaust valves. LCE uses brand new billet steel camshaft blanks that we machine in house. The cams are ground to our profiles and the journals are hard chromed for longevity and then installed using straight cut cam gears (for strength and adjustability) and billet aluminum cam caps. After it is all said and done we spend over 40 hours of labor on the cylinder head alone. The front drive is completed with a billet tensioner assembly, ATI Super Damper, adjustable cam gear and a billet lower drive system that can be made to accommodate multiple belt configurations and either a Motec or Electromotive ignition trigger wheel and sensors system.
This engine technology has proven its strength and power on multiple race teams ranging from NOPI and NHRA drag racing (World Racing and Chris Rado, Jotech Racing and Kenny Tran and T&T Racing and Scott Kelley) to CORR Off-Road racing (Jeff Yoder Racing, Kincaid Racing, Kandell Racing). So when you are ready to get serious about your 3RZ performance look no further than LC Engineering!!!
A
Long Block is an automotive term describing an engine sub-assembly consisting of the following:
- Short block. The long block is always a superset of the corresponding short block.
- Cylinder head. A complete new or remanufactured cylinder head assembly is installed with a new head gasket and torqued to specification. (LCE uses only new heads and parts on late moldel Pro 22 R/RE engines) Complete cylinder heads include new or reconditioned valves, valve springs, valve guides (if applicable), valve seats (if applicable), valve locks, and valve keepers. The bare head is free from cracks, warps, or holes.
On all LCE Pro engines, the camshaft will be installed. A Long Block engine replacement will require swapping out parts from the original engine to the long block. These parts include the intake manifold, the exhaust manifold, alternator, power steering pump (if installed in the vehicle), and air conditioner compressor (if installed in the vehicle). For a complete list of parts included; please see above text.
