Usually on 20+ year old truck, the wiring can be a little questionable. Replace it with this OEM part that comes directly from Toyota. What better way to refresh something, than by using the same parts used by the company that built the vehicle. Throttle position sensors are switches on the throttle body that keep the engine control informed of the throttle opening. The TPS is a variable resistor that changes resistance as the throttle opens wider. The computer needs this information to change the air/fuel mixture.
