LCE Differential Breather Kit
A differential / axle breather serves the important purpose on a 4WD vehicle of venting the air pressure in drivetrain assemblies such as the differentials, transmission and transfer case. Under normal operations, these assemblies heat up and the air inside expands, increasing the pressure and thus the need to be vented to the atmosphere is created. When the drivetrain assembly cools down the air inside contracts and creates a vacuum. Many drivetrain assemblies are fitted with a breather from the factory. These factory breathers are usually a one-way valve mounted directly to the housing or remotely on a short tube. The shortfall with the factory breathers is that driving through water crossings creates a vacuum caused by the drivetrain assembly being cooled rapidly by the water. This vacuum will tightly close the valve shut causing air to be instantly drawn into the assembly through the seals. Many times the seals are still submerged below water, leading to the water being drawn into the drivetrain. This will contaminate the oil and possibly damage drivetrain components.

This kit will extend the front and rear differential breathers up onto the frame to help prevent water and contaminants from entering your axles. This is vital if you traverse water or mud while out off-roading. The kit comes with axle fittings, hose, and filters for easy installation.
Kit Contents:
- (2) Filters
- (2) Push-Lock Fittings
- (2) AN Fittings
- 5' of 1/4" Hi Pressure Hose
Installation Instructions
-
1. Remove factory breather fitting from your differential.
2. Install 1/8" to -4 adapter steel fitting. Use thread sealant. Tapered pipe thread installs into differential.
3. Install 45 degree -4 Push-Lock fitting onto adapter. Tighten down as shown in photo.
4. Install 1/4" Push-Lock hose onto fitting. NOTE: Push-Lock hose can be difficult to install. We have found its best to heat the hose end up with a heat gun to make it more pliable and to use a light oil on the fitting to ease install. Hose should bottom out onto the plastic ring.
5. Route the hose upward to the frame in the highest best place suitable. Zip tie into place and install to leave enough slack in the hose to allow for suspension droop. 5' of hose is supplied and its up to you on where to route it and how much to use for front and back.
