This Is the LCE Engine, in a Lighter Car

The third-gen Celica ran the 22R from 1982 and the fuel-injected 22R-E from 1983. That is the engine LC Engineering was founded on, and it means our catalog for this car is as deep as it is for any Toyota truck — with the advantage that a Celica weighs several hundred pounds less than the Pickup the same engine came in.

Complete Long Blocks

We build these as finished, ready-to-install engines rather than parts you assemble. Everything is machined, assembled and checked in our own shop:

Be honest with yourself about the stage. A Stage 3 in a street Celica needs the carburetion or injection sorted to match, and a Stage 5 is not a pleasant road engine. Most owners are better served by Stage 2 with the rest of the car brought up to it.

Stroker and Turbo Builds

For displacement, the 22R/22R-E stroker long block adds torque everywhere, which suits a street car far better than chasing peak power. If boost is the plan, the 22R-TE turbo street stroker short block kit with H-beam rods is the correct foundation — a stock bottom end is the limiting factor once you run meaningful boost.

Supercharger Kits

Supercharging is the simpler route and holds factory drivability. For the injected 22R-E, boost level is the decision:

For carbureted 1982 cars, the 22R kit with Weber inlet and the Holley inlet version match the carburetor fitted. See all Celica supercharger kits.

Supporting the Build

Power needs the rest of the car to keep up. Browse drivetrain for clutch and differential parts, brakes, cooling, exhaust and performance kits.
