If you are not certain what is in your truck, start here. The 5VZ-FE was the V6 option across four platforms:

A 3.4 is a 3.4 across all four. Most engine internals interchange, which is why one part often shows a fitment list covering several trucks. You will see the engine written 5VZ-FE, 5VZFE or just 5VZ depending on who is writing it — and plenty of people simply call it the 3.4. They are all the same engine.
If the engine is tired, cracked or apart on a bench, this is where most people land. Our Stage 1 5VZ Long Block is a complete, ready-to-install engine, not a kit of parts. Be honest with yourself about which route you are on. A long block costs more up front than a rebuild kit and saves you the machine shop, the assembly time and the risk of a mistake you only find at start-up. If the truck is a daily driver and you need it back this month, the long block is usually the cheaper answer once your own time is priced in.
The 5VZ responds well to head work, and it is where the meaningful power on this engine lives. The Pro Cylinder Head Set for the 5VZ-FE is our ported and assembled pair, supplied without cams so you can match camshafts to the rest of the build.

Forced induction is the single biggest change available to a 3.4, and it is what most people come to us for.
The factory TRD supercharger for this engine has been discontinued for years, which is why so many searches for it end nowhere. The current answer is the Magnuson 3.4L Supercharger System for the 1995-2004 5VZ-FE — an intercooled positive-displacement system that works with the factory engine management rather than fighting it.

One order-of-operations note we give everyone: if the engine has real miles on it, refresh the bottom end before you add boost. Forced induction finds every tired ring land and marginal head gasket an engine has, and it finds them quickly.
The factory exhaust manifolds are the restriction on a stock 3.4. Our Tacoma 3.4 headers are the common starting point, and the wider LCE-made header range covers the other platforms.

The 3.4 is a durable engine that asks for a few specific things on schedule.
The timing belt is the big one. This engine uses a belt, not a chain, and the water pump is driven by it. Replace them together — the labour is nearly all shared, and doing the belt alone means paying for the same teardown twice when the pump goes. Our 5VZ Timing Belt Kit covers it.

Putting a 3.4 V6 into a truck that came with a 22R-E is one of the most popular swaps in the Toyota world, and for good reason: roughly sixty percent more power in a chassis that was designed around the same drivetrain architecture.
The mounts are the first hurdle. Our 22R-E to 5VZ Conversion Motor Mounts locate the V6 correctly in a Pickup or older 4Runner, and the engine swap header solves the exhaust side.
