One Built Long Block, and We Will Say So

If you know our 22R range you will expect a ladder of stages. There is one built long block for the 5VZ — the Stage 1 — and we would rather tell you that than imply a catalogue we do not have.

Two honest routes from here:

  • Buy it built — the Stage 1 long block above.
  • Build your own — start at Rebuild Kits. We sell every part that goes into our own engines.

Why the 3.4 Is Worth Building

The 5VZ-FE is the engine a lot of Toyota owners end up wanting. It is a 24-valve V6 with a good factory head, it makes meaningfully more torque than any of the fours we build, and it found its way into the Tacoma, 4Runner, T100 and Tundra.

It is also the most popular engine swap target in the older-truck world — a 22RE to 5VZ conversion is a well-trodden path, and we sell the conversion mounts and swap header for it.

Three Things That Make This Engine Different

If you are coming from a 22R or an RZ four, these will catch you out:

  1. It runs a timing BELT, not a chain. That is a scheduled service item with a real interval, not a part you replace when it gets noisy. See Timing Belt Components.
  2. Two cylinder heads. Head gaskets are handed — left and right — and valve sets come in 24s rather than 16s.
  3. Forced induction here means a supercharger. We do not build a turbo kit for the 5VZ. The Magnuson system is the route.

Building It Yourself

Everything in our long blocks is sold separately, and a careful home build using the same parts gives you the same engine.

Pick the right rebuild kit for your year and vehicle — there are three and they are not interchangeable — then work outward:

Pistons, Rods & Crankshafts · Cylinder Heads & Valvetrain · Timing Belt Components

Do the timing belt and water pump while the front of the engine is open. On a belt-driven V6 that is not optional advice — it is the single most expensive thing to have to do twice.

Then What?

A fresh long block is the right place to add boost, not the other way round. The Magnuson 3.4L supercharger system is the proven answer on this engine — belt driven, torque from idle, and no heat management problem in the engine bay.
