Shorty Header Kit
(Not Smog Legal)
Did you know that a header is a simple yet powerful bolt-on part that can significantly increase the performance of your vehicle? Unlike other complex and expensive modifications, a header improves the flow in your exhaust system, resulting in an average 10% increase in horsepower. The principle is straightforward: when the exhaust gases can escape more quickly, the engine can take in fresh air more efficiently.
In today's market, you'll find a wide variety of headers available, some of which may be cheaper but not necessarily better. However, when it comes to headers for Toyota 20/22 engine series, LC Engineering stands out as the leading choice. With over 20 years of experience in producing, testing, installing, and designing headers, LC Engineering guarantees that you won't find a superior header on the market. Once you install an LC Engineering header on your Toyota, you'll understand why we are the number one choice among race and off-road enthusiasts, making us worth the extra investment.
LC Engineering utilizes top-quality materials in the construction of our headers. We use 304 1 1/2" Stainless steel tubing with a 16-gauge .065 wall, ensuring durability and optimal performance. The header to head flange is made from a substantial 1/2" thick steel, while the collector flanges are 3/8" thick and 2 1/4" in size. Additionally, the entire package is coated with a high-temperature ceramic coating for enhanced longevity. To simplify the installation process, we provide all the necessary gaskets, including OEM exhaust manifold gaskets. These gaskets feature a metal crush fire ring and a heat deflector for the plug wires, eliminating the risk of cheap paper gaskets blowing out. Furthermore, this Header Kit is specifically designed to fit on rock crawlers and buggies, which typically have limited space for a long tube header.
The LC Engineering Header Kit includes the following components:
- Shorty Header designed for 4x4 and 4x2 Pickups and 4Runners (measurement confirmation required for compatibility)
- 22R/RE Header Gasket (select the appropriate year range)
- (2) 3/8" thick 2 1/4" Steel 2-Bolt Style Flanges
- (2) Round Collector Gaskets
- Hardware for 2-Bolt Flanges
- Air injection Gaskets
By choosing an LC Engineering header, you are investing in a superior product that maximizes your vehicle's performance while providing durability, ease of installation, and compatibility with space-restricted applications. Experience the power and reliability that have made LC Engineering the preferred choice among automotive enthusiasts.
All Toyota Pickups and 4Runners manufactured before 1988 should be a factory non-heated single wire oxygen sensor. When installing our Street Header Kit you will notice that the oxygen sensor provision has been moved downstream from its factory location. We recommend that anyone with a pre 1988 application utilize our universal 4 wire heated O2 sensor in replace of there factory single wire. This will not only improve the signal but the gas mileage as well as the performance of the vehicle. Vehicles made from 1988-1995 should have a factory heated O2 sensor and should not need to change it unless their factory one is damaged
NOTE: Not Smog legal. Please understand that you will be doing custom work for the exhaust system, O2 sensor will be relocated. Welding will be required. Unfortunately, we cannot confirm fitment to any Toyota Car, see the images below for fitment layout. LC Engineering does NOT recommend wrapping our headers with any sort of exhaust wrap. Doing so will increase the likelihood of a premature failure of the header, as it holds contaminants to the exhaust tubing and increases the chances of corrosion. Exhaust wraps will void any and all warranty claims.

Question: Do these headers use the 7 or 8 bolt exhaust pattern?
Answer: Our LCE headers will accommodate both 7 and 8 bolt exhaust patterns.

Installation:
Follow the steps in the service manual for disassembly and removal of exhaust manifold and header pipe. Remove bracket from bell housing that retains original header pipe. This bracket will not be re-used. Clean all gasket surfaces before installing gaskets provided in header kit. Install header. Tighten all fasteners to factory torque specifications. Some factory heat shields may need to be removed to give clearance for the LC Engineering header. Due to Toyota's production changes with various exhaust systems, the connector pipe included may require some cutting and modifications on certain applications (direct-fit header kits only). The pipe was designed to be able to rotate as needed to align to factory exhaust and O2 sensor.
Exhaust Studs: Torque exhaust studs to 10ft-lbs and flange nuts to 33ft-lbs. We also offer new header mounting studs if needed (part #1045030).
Air Injection Manifold:
On some models there is an "Air Injection Manifold" that bolts to the flange of the factory exhaust manifold, this manifold will need to be re-installed on the header. To perform this installation you will have to remove the bolt tab that interferes with the number 4 (rear) header tube on certain year applications.
No Air Injection Manifold: On Models with no air injection the "Block off Plates" that are bolted to the factory exhaust manifold will need to be removed and reinstalled using the gaskets provided.
NOTES:
- Verify the length of the bolt used on the air injection manifold. The bolt cannot protrude past the header flange. Use flat washers to space the bolts properly. Due to the larger primary tubes on your new header you may have to trim your air injection plates so that they will not hit the primary tube welds on the header flange.
- LC Engineering recommends using O2 safe, high-temperature silicon (Copper RTV) on slip connections for small exhaust leaks. LC Engineering does not recommend the use of header wraps.
- Over 20+ years of producing these headers LC Engineering has made all attempts to make these header kits fit as best as possible. Unfortunately there are a very small amount of applications that may require more extensive modification or even fabrication to make the connector pipe fit correctly (direct-fit only). This is mostly contributed to numerous changes in Toyota's production along with aftermarket modifications. LC Engineering offers full technical support to make your fitment as easy as possible but they will not be responsible for any "custom" connector pipes.

Fits great
Really happy with the fit, the measurements online were accurate

1980 long bed 2wd 20R p/up w/ 32/36 Weber
Love it had to improvise and make my own exhaust from the headers back but sounds and runs great now. Prior to the the LCE parts I attempted to clean the stock carb and upon reinstalling it it wouldn’t idle properly and got horrible mileage. Tried tuning every which way to which I couldn’t get it to work out. Installed Weber and headers and instantly cured all my issues.

Expedited Service
The headers came in extremely fast and came with everything I needed. The option for new hardware was also a great investment. I just need a few feet of piping and slap on a muffler and she's ready

Nice!
Well built, quality part. But the customer service is what sets LCE apart and above most other vendors!
