Street Header Kit
(50 State Legal)
Whether your truck is bone stock or built for extra performance, the LC Engineering Street Header is the "best bang for your buck" bolt-on part you can buy. You should expect to see a 10-15% power increase with a good boost to the top-end of the powerband where these trucks struggle. With so many choices for a header on the market, some certainly being cheaper, we can understand if you are struggling with the decision of which one to buy. We can tell you there is a good reason why our header is still the #1 on the market and worth the extra cost.
Our most popular product is the street header kits. LC Engineering uses all 304 1 1/2" Stainless steel tubing, 16 gauge .065 wall, a huge 1/2" thick steel header to head flange and 3/8" thick steel 2-1/4" flange at the collector that accepts the stock Toyota round exhaust gasket. As if that were not enough, the whole package is coated in a high temp ceramic coating. To make the install easy on you LC Engineering supplies you with all the gaskets needed to bolt your header on your vehicle. Our header flanges are cut to allow the use of OEM exhaust manifold gaskets. These gaskets feature a metal crush fire ring and a heat deflector for the plug wires. No cheap paper gaskets to blow out with an LC Engineering Header.
Here are a few reasons why:
- LC Engineering has been designing, testing, producing and installing these headers for more than 20 years.
- Since we focus on Toyota performance parts we spend the extra time to make these headers the best they can be.
- Our header is made with high-quality materials.
- Our header is coated in a high-temperature ceramic coating.
- Our head side flange is designed to retain use of the OEM exhaust manifold gasket, the gasket features a metal crush fire ring and a heat deflector for the spark plug wires.
- We supply all the gaskets you need to complete the install.
Kit Includes:
- 2WD (82-95) Street Header
- 22R/RE Header Connector Pipe
- Street Header Gasket Set (82-84 Specific)
All Toyota Pickups manufactured before 1988 should be a factory non-heated single wire oxygen sensor. When installing our Street Header Kit you will notice that the oxygen sensor provision has been moved downstream from its factory location. We recommend that anyone with a pre 1988 application utilize our universal 4 wire heated O2 sensor in replace of there factory single wire. This will not only improve the signal but the gas mileage as well as the performance of the vehicle. Vehicles made from 1988-1995 should have a factory heated O2 sensor and should not need to change it unless their factory one is damaged.
NOTE: We cannot quote fitment to any chassis before 1982. This header kit is for 82-84 2 Wheel drive trucks auto and manual transmissions, and includes an adjustable connector pipe that will connect to most factory catalytic converter. Not for 4Runners 2WD or 4WD. 1982-1984 4Runners were based on a 4wd truck chassis, see Part #: 1041037 for 4Runner fitment. Vehicles made from 1988-1995 come from the factory with a heated O2 sensor and changing the sensor is not necessary unless the one currently installed is damaged. See Universal Heated O2 Part #: 1065034 (Sensor not California Smog Legal). LC Engineering does NOT recommend wrapping our headers with any sort of exhaust wrap. Doing so will increase the likelihood of a premature failure of the header, as it holds contaminants to the exhaust tubing and increases the chances of corrosion. Exhaust wraps will void any and all warranty claims.
If you have to pass emissions where you are located, or if you want to hook your air injection back up to this header you will need to purchase our air injection adapter kit, see Part #: 1040000. If you do not wish to run the air injection you will need to get the air injection block off plate kit, see Part #: 1045014. You will also need the Heat Riser, see Part # 1045020.
NOTE: Due to many fitment differences, we cannot quote fitment to any RV. These were a custom vehicle and not a standard dealership vehicle. We do have a Test Fit Header that we can ship to you with a return label for $75. This will be the only way to confirm fitment to anything considered an RV.
Installation Note:
Over 20+ years of producing these headers LC Engineering has made all attempts to make these header kits fit as best as possible. Unfortunately there are a very small amount of applications that may require more extensive modification or even fabrication to make the connector pipe fit correctly. This is mostly contributed to numerous changes in Toyota's production along with aftermarket modifications. LC Engineering offers full technical support to make your fitment as easy as possible but they will not be responsible for any "custom" connector pipes.

Question: Do these headers use the 7 or 8 bolt exhaust pattern?
Answer: Our LCE headers will accommodate both 7 and 8 bolt exhaust patterns.

Installation:
Follow the steps in the service manual for disassembly and removal of exhaust manifold and header pipe. Remove bracket from bell housing that retains original header pipe. This bracket will not be re-used. Clean all gasket surfaces before installing gaskets provided in header kit. Install header. Tighten all fasteners to factory torque specifications. Some factory heat shields may need to be removed to give clearance for the LCE header. Due to Toyota's production changes with various exhaust systems, the connector pipe included may require some cutting and modifications on certain applications (direct-fit header kits only). The pipe was designed to be able to rotate as needed to align to factory exhaust and O2 sensor.
Exhaust Studs: Torque exhaust studs to 10ft-lbs and flange nuts to 33ft-lbs. We also offer new header mounting studs if needed, see Part# 1045030.
Air Injection Manifold: On some models there is an "Air Injection Manifold" that bolts to the flange of the factory exhaust manifold, this manifold will need to be re-installed on the header. To perform this installation you will have to remove the bolt tab that interferes with the number 4 (rear) header tube on certain year applications.
No Air Injection Manifold: On Models with no air injection the "Block off Plates" that are bolted to the factory exhaust manifold will need to be removed and reinstalled using the gaskets provided.
NOTES:
- Verify the length of the bolt used on the air injection manifold. The bolt cannot protrude past the header flange. Use flat washers to space the bolts properly. Due to the larger primary tubes on your new header you may have to trim your air injection plates so that they will not hit the primary tube welds on the header flange.
- LC Engineering recommends using O2 safe, high-temperature silicon (Copper RTV) on slip connections for small exhaust leaks. LC Engineering does not recommend the use of header wraps.
- Over 20+ years of producing these headers LC Engineering has made all attempts to make these header kits fit as best as possible. Unfortunately there are a very small amount of applications that may require more extensive modification or even fabrication to make the connector pipe fit correctly (direct-fit only). This is mostly contributed to numerous changes in Toyota's production along with aftermarket modifications. LC Engineering offers full technical support to make your fitment as easy as possible but they will not be responsible for any "custom" connector pipes.

1981 Toyota Pickup fitment
Just things to consider if you have an 81 (may apply to 79-80s) These WILL fit IF you do some modifications. These headers DO NOT fit the dual row air injection set up. I didn't try and bend the tubes to make it work I just deleted em. The test pipe will bolt up to the OE cat/ exhaust set up (assuming mine was OE) however you'll have to remove the front cat hanger completely and make your own. The OE exhaust bracket on the bell housings (M/T) gets deleted. Lastly the 1st heat shield right where the headers end needs to be modded. Two of the tabs have a step just bend them straight and re drill the holes so it lays flat and gives the headers enough clearance. Over all the small power boost was def worth it.
