The first-generation Toyota 4Runner (1984–1989) is the original factory 4Runner and shares its chassis, engines, and most of its drivetrain with the contemporary 4th gen Toyota Pickup. The engine lineup is the LCE specialty zone: the carbureted 22R 2.4-liter (1984-1987), the fuel-injected 22RE (1985-1989), the factory-turbocharged 22RTE that ran from 1986 through 1988 in very low volume, and the 3VZE 3.0-liter V6 introduced for 1988. The 1984-1985 trucks ran a solid front axle; 1986 onward got the IFS (Independent Front Suspension) revision shared with the Pickup.

LC Engineering has been building performance and replacement parts for the 22R, 22RE, 22RTE, and 3VZE since 1985 — the entire production life of the 1st gen 4Runner and longer than most owners have had their trucks. Our 1st gen 4Runner catalog includes complete long blocks and crate engines, the LCE Stroker (2.7-liter displacement increase), Stage 2 through Stage 5 camshafts, header kits, supercharger and turbo kits, master rebuild kits, suspension components for both the solid-axle and IFS trucks, and the OEM-spec replacement parts that keep these 35+ year old 4Runners on the road.
