Why Buy a Package

The commonest way a carburetor conversion goes wrong is not the carburetor. It is the adapter that does not match the manifold, the linkage that fouls, the air cleaner that will not clear the hood, or a fuel pressure that suits the old setup and not the new one. Every part in these kits was selected against the others and against the engine.

Buy the pieces separately if you know exactly what you want. Buy the package if you would rather it worked the first weekend.

Weber Carburetor Packages — Choose Three Things

Most of this page is Weber packages, and the variants come down to three choices.

  • 32/36 or 38? The 32/36 is progressive — a small primary for economy and drivability, a larger secondary that opens under load. It is the right answer for a mostly stock engine and a truck that gets driven. The 38 is a synchronous twin barrel, better on a built engine that spends time at higher rpm, thirstier and less docile below it.
  • Electric or manual choke? Electric is easier to live with and needs a switched 12V feed. Manual needs a cable to the cab, gives you full control, and never fails silently. On a truck that sits in cold weather, plenty of people prefer the manual.
  • Which air cleaner? Stock replacement, K&N, or billet. Check hood clearance before choosing billet.

EFI Power Packages

For 22R-E trucks staying fuel injected. These bundle the parts that actually move the needle on an EFI 22RE rather than one part at a time.

The 1988/1989 split is real — the injection system changed — so check the year rather than assuming.

What Goes With It

Plan for the small parts. Each package contains the components that have to match each other, but a conversion still wants fresh gaskets, fluids, and something to set the fuel pressure and the mixture with once it is running. Budget an afternoon and a few small items beyond the box — that is normal for this work, not a sign something is missing.

A package handles what is on the engine. What feeds and empties it is separate: headers, Pro Flow exhaust, and if you are rebuilding rather than bolting on, the cylinder heads.
