Street Header Kit for 1985-1995 22R/RE Toyota Engines (4WD)
(50 State Legal C.A.R.B. EO: D-462-1)
Whether your 1985-1995 Toyota truck is bone stock or built for extra performance, the LC Engineering Street Header for 22R/RE engines is the "best bang for your buck" bolt-on part you can buy. You should expect to see a 10-15% power increase with a good boost to the top end of the powerband where these trucks struggle. With so many choices for a header on the market, some certainly being cheaper, we can understand if you are struggling with the decision of which one to buy. We can tell you there is a good reason why our header is still #1 on the market and worth the extra cost.
Our most popular product is the street header kit. LC Engineering uses all 304 1 1/2" Stainless steel tubing, a huge 1/2" thick steel header to the head flange, and a 3/8" thick steel 2-1/4" flange at the collector that accepts the stock Toyota round exhaust gasket. So it's an OE fit. As if that were not enough, the whole package is coated in a high-temperature ceramic coating. To make the installation easy on you LC Engineering supplies you with all the gaskets needed to bolt your header on your vehicle. Our header flanges are cut to allow the use of OEM exhaust manifold gaskets. These gaskets feature a metal crush fire ring and a heat deflector for the plug wires. No cheap paper gaskets to blow out with an LC Engineering Header.
Here are a few reasons why:
- Made with high-quality materials.
- Coated in a high-temperature ceramic coating.
- Gaskets Included
- LC Engineering has been designing, testing, producing, and installing 22R/RE street headers for more than 20 years.
- Since we focus on Toyota performance parts we spend the extra time to make these headers the best they can be.
- Our head side flange is designed to retain the use of the OEM exhaust manifold gasket, the gasket features a metal crush fire ring and a heat deflector for the spark plug wires.
Kit Includes:
- 4WD (82-95) Street Header
- 4WD Connector Pipe
- Street Header Gasket Set (85-95 Specific)
All Toyota Pickups and 4Runners manufactured before 1988 have a factory non-heated single-wire oxygen sensor. When installing our Street Header Kit you will notice that the oxygen sensor provision has been moved downstream from its factory location. We recommend that anyone with a pre-1988 application utilize our universal 4-wire heated O2 sensor in replace of their factory single wire. This will not only improve the signal but the gas mileage as well as the performance of the vehicle. Vehicles made from 1988-1995 should have a factory-heated O2 sensor and should not need to change it unless their factory one is damaged.
NOTE: If your O2 sensor is located in the exhaust manifold then you need to check the box for O2 Relocation Kit. If by any chance you did not select it with your kit and you need it, don't worry all you need is 18 gauge wire and 2 small crimp connectors from your local auto part store. LC Engineering does NOT recommend wrapping our headers with any sort of exhaust wrap. Doing so will increase the likelihood of a premature failure of the header, as it holds contaminants to the exhaust tubing and increases the chances of corrosion. Exhaust wraps will void any warranty claims.
Installation Note:
Over 20+ years of producing these headers LC Engineering has made all attempts to make these header kits fit as best as possible. Unfortunately, there is a very small amount of applications that may require more extensive modification or even fabrication to make the connector pipe fit correctly. This is mostly contributed to numerous changes in Toyota's production along with aftermarket modifications. LC Engineering offers full technical support to make your fitment as easy as possible but they will not be responsible for any "custom" connector pipes.
NOTE: Due to many fitment differences, we cannot quote fitment to any RV. These were a custom vehicle and not a standard dealership vehicle. We do have a Test Fit Header that we can ship to you with a return label for $75. This will be the only way to confirm fitment to anything considered an RV.

Installation:
Follow the steps in the service manual for disassembly and removal of exhaust manifold and header pipe. Remove bracket from bell housing that retains original header pipe. This bracket will not be re-used. Clean all gasket surfaces before installing gaskets provided in header kit. Install header. Tighten all fasteners to factory torque specifications. Some factory heat shields may need to be removed to give clearance for the LC Engineering header. Due to Toyota's production changes with various exhaust systems, the connector pipe included may require some cutting and modifications on certain applications (direct-fit header kits only). The pipe was designed to be able to rotate as needed to align to factory exhaust and O2 sensor.
Exhaust Studs: Torque exhaust studs to 10ft-lbs and flange nuts to 33ft-lbs. We also offer new header mounting studs if needed (part #1045030).
Air Injection Manifold:
On some models there is an "Air Injection Manifold" that bolts to the flange of the factory exhaust manifold, this manifold will need to be re-installed on the header. To perform this installation you will have to remove the bolt tab that interferes with the number 4 (rear) header tube on certain year applications.
No Air Injection Manifold: On Models with no air injection the "Block off Plates" that are bolted to the factory exhaust manifold will need to be removed and reinstalled using the gaskets provided.
NOTES:
- Verify the length of the bolt used on the air injection manifold. The bolt cannot protrude past the header flange. Use flat washers to space the bolts properly. Due to the larger primary tubes on your new header you may have to trim your air injection plates so that they will not hit the primary tube welds on the header flange.
- LC Engineering recommends using O2 safe, high-temperature silicon (Copper RTV) on slip connections for small exhaust leaks. LC Engineering does not recommend the use of header wraps.
- Over 20+ years of producing these headers LC Engineering has made all attempts to make these header kits fit as best as possible. Unfortunately there are a very small amount of applications that may require more extensive modification or even fabrication to make the connector pipe fit correctly (direct-fit only). This is mostly contributed to numerous changes in Toyota's production along with aftermarket modifications. LC Engineering offers full technical support to make your fitment as easy as possible but they will not be responsible for any "custom" connector pipes.
