The 2RZ Runs a 9 1/4" Clutch — and Shares It With the 22R

This is the most important thing on the page. The 2.4 uses a 9 1/4" clutch, shared with the 22R, 22RE and 22RET. The 2.7 and the 3.4 use a 10". Ordering by engine family alone will get you the wrong disc.

The upside is genuine: the 9 1/4" parts are the most common clutch components we sell, so availability is excellent.

The 10" upgrade

If you are building for real power, the 10" Pro Clutch and Flywheel bundle moves the 2RZ up to the larger clutch used behind the 2.7. That is the route to take if you are adding a turbo or high boost supercharger — more clamp area than the 9 1/4" can offer.

Four Kits, Four Different Trucks

Every kit is all new components with a single diaphragm heavy duty pressure plate, and includes the pressure plate, disc, pilot bearing, throw-out bearing and alignment tool.

On the design, we will quote ourselves: don't be fooled by fancy spinning gizmos — a diaphragm clutch delivers full holding power at all engine rpm.

  • Street — a quality factory-equivalent assembly. If your clutch is simply worn and the truck is stock, this is the right kit.
  • Pro — heavy duty pressure plate with our custom disc. For a modified engine, bigger tyres or a truck that tows.
  • Dual Comp — street and off-road racing. Enough capacity to compete, enough manners to drive home.
  • Metallic — racing. Engages harder, less forgiving in traffic. Only if the truck genuinely races.

Replacement discs sold individually: Pro, Dual Comp, Metallic, plus the 9 1/4" pressure plate — a heavy duty replacement giving a firmer pedal without overpowering your clutch hydraulics.

The Lightweight Flywheel — and When Not to Fit It

The 19 lb lightweight steel flywheel lets the engine rev more freely by removing rotating inertia. On the 2.4 that suits the engine's character — the shorter stroke already wants to rev, and a lighter flywheel amplifies it.

But be careful if you run big tyres. Removing inertia means the engine falls out of its powerband between shifts, and a 2.4 turning 33" tyres has little to spare. If that is your truck, the heavier 10" bundle is the better answer — the opposite of what the spec sheet suggests.

Light flywheel: light truck, stock or modest tyres, revs. Heavy flywheel: big tyres, towing, low-speed torque.

Wear pads

Running an LCE aluminium flywheel? The wear pad and hardware kit and the 9.5" wear pad on its own are the service items — the pad is the sacrificial friction surface, and replacing it is far cheaper than replacing the flywheel.

The Bundles

The 9 1/4" Pro bundle and the 10" upgrade bundle include the parts people skip and then regret — including the rear main seal and a Seal Saver sleeve.

That rear seal is the point. It is only accessible with the transmission out, which is exactly where you are during a clutch job. Fitting a new clutch behind a tired rear main seal means doing the whole job again when it drips onto the new disc.

Flywheel Bolts

The OEM flywheel bolt kit is black oxide coated. These are torque-to-yield — do not reuse them. They stretch permanently on first tightening and a reused one does not clamp to the same figure. Follow the torque-plus-angle procedure rather than a single figure.

Hydraulics

A clutch that will not fully release is often hydraulic rather than mechanical. The slave and master cylinder are both here, with the throw-out bearing and pilot bearing.

Replace both bearings with the clutch, every time. They cost very little next to the labour of removing a transmission.

Tell us the power, the tyre size and what the truck does and we will size it properly.
