First: 4-Port or 8-Port?
Nearly everything here splits on that, and it follows your model year — the earlier engines use the 8-port head, the later ones the 4-port. Count the runners where the manifold meets the head rather than ordering from the year alone. Order wrong and nothing seals.
Air Intake
The Rock Ripper Extreme Air Intake replaces the restrictive factory airbox with polished stainless tubing, a cast aluminium filter bracket and a large high-performance filter.
For a trail truck the filter surface area is the real argument. A much larger filter takes far longer to load with dust, which is what actually strangles an engine on a dusty trail.
The K&N crankcase breather eliminates the PCV system and is not recommended for any street vehicle — it is a racing and vintage part.
Throttle Body Spacer
The throttle body spacer kit uses a spiral bore that agitates incoming air. The point is fuel atomisation — tumbling air mixes with fuel more thoroughly than air travelling straight, and a better-mixed charge burns more completely.
The kit includes the billet spacer, a throttle cable bracket relocation plate and hardware.
Intake Manifold Spacer
The intake manifold spacer kit from Anderson Engine Solutions is a runner extension for 1995-1999 Tacoma. Lengthening the runner shifts the tuned peak downward, so the gain shows up as more torque and better throttle response from idle through the mid-range rather than more peak power.
On a 2.4 that is exactly where you want it. The smaller engine is the one that feels short of torque with a load, and this addresses that end of the rev range specifically. It bolts on with no major engine modification.
Heat Is the Enemy
An intake manifold bolted to a hot cylinder head conducts heat into the incoming air, and hot air is thin air. Teflon isolation gaskets break that heat path, and they are reusable and do not tear the way factory paper gaskets do:
Standard Gaskets and Hardware
The manifold is a two-piece design, so there are three sealing points: the plenum gasket between the upper and lower halves, the lower-to-head gasket in 8 port or 4 port, and the throttle body gasket — a classic source of hard-to-find vacuum leaks.
The intake manifold stud kit lets you remove and refit the manifold repeatedly without wearing the threads in the cylinder head.
Throttle Position Sensor
The TPS tells the ECU how far open the throttle is. A worn one produces hesitation, poor idle and bad economy that no tuning fixes. It requires a critical adjustment procedure on fitting — bolting it on and hoping is why a new TPS often does not solve the problem it was bought for.
EGR
The modified EGR tube is a welded extension that keeps the factory EGR system working after modifications that would otherwise move it out of reach — how you modify the engine and stay compliant rather than deleting it and failing an inspection.
Send us your year and VIN and we will confirm 4-port or 8-port before you order.
