Big Brake Upgrade Kit
(Front)
Let's face it, the stock brakes on your 1995-2004 6-lug Tacoma leave a little to be desired. Sure, they work alright for stock trucks that don't get driven hard, but when you start towing, hauling heavy loads, or even so much as putting on a set of aftermarket wheels and bigger tires, the stock brakes can quickly go from mediocre to downright scary.
Fortunately, LC Engineering has developed a kit for these trucks to make the brakes on your 4-wheel drive or Pre Runner Tacoma much better. By using Tundra four piston calipers, a set of our exclusive drilled and slotted rotors, combined with a set of OEM brake pads, and a custom set of stainless steel brake lines, we've increased the rotor diameter from the 11-11/16" to 12-1/2" as well as the overall thickness of the rotor for better clamping force and resistance to brake fade.
The brake lines we have developed for this kit include Tundra-style hard lines and brackets, and a custom set of braided Teflon-lined hoses to connect to the stock Tacoma frame-side brake lines. We have also included a matching brake line for the rear to make it a complete package. As with our regular Tacoma braided brake lines, these are also available in stock length(roughly 16"), 3" extended, and 6" extended length to accommodate lifted vehicles and other suspension modifications. Stock length is the standard, unless you choose the extended length.
Kit Includes:
- Front Drilled And Slotted Rotors
- Tundra 13WE Calipers
- Stainless Braided Brake Lines (2 Front, 1 Rear)
- OEM Brake Pads
- Caliper Hard Lines
- Brake Line Clips
- Brake Line Spindle Brackets
NOTE: This upgrade requires minor modifications to the dust shield, and requires the use of 16" or larger wheels. Uses stock master cylinder. Brakes are one of your vehicle's control systems. Do not purchase and/or install brake components unless you are prepared to accept the sole responsibility for use of these components. This Kit will not work on T-100 Trucks. Calipers are shipped raw (un-coated and unpainted) in order to prevent rust, we would recommend to add some sort of protective coating (i.e paint, powder coating, etc.) .

Installation:
-
1. Jack up vehicle and support with jack stands.
2. Open brake master cylinder cap.
3. Remove brake line from frame mount, spindle mount, and remove bracket from spindle. Leave brake line attached to caliper. Removal is unnecessary.
4. Remove caliper by removing two 17mm bolts on the backside of the caliper.
5. Remove rotor. Due to exposure to the elements and moisture, the rotors may be "stuck" to the hub and may require some force to remove from the hub. A dead-blow hammer or rubber mallet should be enough to break the rotor loose from the hub. DO NOT USE A STEEL HAMMER as it will chip and damage components.
6. Remove any corrosion that may be present on the hub surface. Use of anti-seize or disk brake lubricant may prevent further corrosion, and aid in future rotor removal.
7. Install Rotors. Make sure to get the proper rotor on the proper side- Right and Left sides are different.
8. Bend backing plate away from rotor if necessary.
9. Install new caliper with pads and new hardware. Make sure to get the proper caliper on the proper side- Right and Left sides are different. See pic below for hardware placement.

10. Using the factory bolt, mount new brake line bracket on spindle. Left and right side brackets are different, so verify that you have the correct side.
11. Install new steel brake line from the caliper to bracket. Left and right sides are different, so make sure to get the correct side where it needs to be. As a tip, the yellow mark on the line goes closest to the spindle.
12. Install new braided steel line from hard line to frame mount and install retaining clips. You may need to open the center of the frame mounted brake line bracket to allow the new brake line to "clock" to the correct position.
13. Repeat process for other side.
14. This kit also includes a new brake line for the rear of the vehicle. Remove old line and replace with new braided line.
15. Fill brake master cylinder with fresh fluid and bleed brake system according to factory specs. Start at the farthest corner from the master cylinder, and work your way closer. Start with right rear, then left rear, right front, left front (right side is passenger side and left is drivers side).
16. New brake pads will need to be "bedded" and broken in for maximum performance and longevity. Follow the brake pad manufacturer's directions for brake pad break-in.

Put on your seat belts when testing.
Of course like most people, we all read the reviews before plunking down a bunch of cash. I've been looking at this kit for sometime now. Just needed to wait for my brakes to wear out. I have the Tacoma 2002 prerunner 4 door, and the factory brakes are mostly a suggestion IMO. Once I got through the struggles of getting the old stuff off, it was a breeze to install the kit. Bled the brakes and did the recommended break in procedures. Some minor squeaks at first, but it went away as expected. And today, the next day after the truck sitting in the driveway overnight, I took it for a short trip into town. No squeaks, no issues whatsoever. 2 thumbs up and 5 gold stars for the performance on how much better these are verses the OEM. Like I said earlier, Seat Belts!! Thanks to LC Engineering and Mike who fielded and email from me to help out.

Long Brake Lines
I used your Tacoma kit on my 4Runner. The only complaint and issue with install was that the 3" extended brake lines seemed to be 6" too long. I also wish these were the 231mm brakes rather than the 199mm.

Tacoma front big brake kit
Great looking product, packaged very well. Package came in two different boxes (i.e. the box with the rotors came separately on a different day), and when I called to ask them about it they were right on point as to where the package was and when it would arrive. Can't wait to get these installed on the truck!

great customer service
parts came in fairly quickly, calipers looked like they mist quality control. They took care of the problem by sending a replacement set of calipers. Thanks Andy
