Pick the Drop First, the Truck Second

Most lowering kits are sold as a pair of numbers — 2/3, 3/4, 4/6 — front drop first, rear drop second. Trucks are lowered more at the rear than the front because they sit nose-down empty to begin with, and matching the drops front and rear leaves the truck looking like it is squatting.

Two things to decide before you buy:

  • How far. Two inches front is a bolt-on. Three or four inches front usually means control arms, and past that you are into notching and shock relocation. Be honest about which build you are doing.
  • Front and rear, or rear only. A rear-only block kit levels a truck that already sits low at the front. It is the cheapest change that makes a visible difference, and plenty of people stop there.

1989-1995 Pickup

The original lowered Toyota, and still the one people build.

The Calmax arms are what let a 1989–1995 Pickup go down at the front without losing its alignment or its ride. If you are going past two inches at the front, budget for them rather than trying to torsion-bar your way there.

2005-2015 Tacoma — Second Generation

Note the 5-lug kit is its own part. The 5-lug trucks — including the X-Runner — use different front geometry from the 6-lug, and this is a common ordering mistake.

2016-2023 Tacoma — Third Generation

If you are on a 2024-or-later fourth-generation truck, the platform changed underneath and the third-gen parts do not carry over. Ask us what is available before ordering anything listed for 2016-2023.

Differential Drop Spacers — Not a Lowering Part

Worth clearing up, because the names look similar and people order the wrong one. A differential drop spacer lowers the front differential relative to the frame to correct CV angles on a lifted truck. It does not lower the truck. If you have lifted rather than lowered:

Before You Order

Three things that decide whether a lowered truck is pleasant to own:

  • Get it aligned afterwards. Every time, not just when the tires start wearing. A lowered truck that has never been aligned will eat a set of front tires in a season.
  • Watch the bump stops. If the suspension runs out of travel the ride goes from firm to violent, and that is a geometry problem, not a shock problem.
  • 2WD and 4WD are different parts. Most of these kits are 2WD. Check before you order.
