Pro Distributor

(w/o Vacuum Advance)

When was the last time you checked your ignition timing? If you are like most people, it has been a while! An old worn-out distributor can cause major tuning issues along with robbing your performance. Time to upgrade to an LC Engineering Pro Distributor. These distributors are Brand New units that have been customized with custom springs and weights to achieve maximum performance. We re-curve these distributors to advance much quicker than stock to provide excellent throttle response and quick acceleration. The vacuum advance unit is removed so you have complete control over your ignition timing. LC Engineering recommends this distributor for racing purposes only.

The non-vacuum advance distributors are a "Must Have" for any high-performance application including; drag racing, circle track, and off-road applications. If you have a tamer application; daily driver or mild performance, then you will want to check into our Pro Distributors with vacuum advance.

  • For carbureted applications only.
  • This model adds approx 18°-20° at 2000-2200 rpm.
  • Fits 20R engines with magnetic pick-up only. 20R engines with points style ignition will require replacing stock igniter with a MSD-6AL Digital Ignition w/rev Control, see Part #:1082026 along with a MSD Blaster 2 Coil, see Part #:1082032.

LC Pro Distributor: An absolute must for all performance applications, especially circle track, off-road, hot street or any race application. These Pro Distributors have a modified advance curve that will provide the appropriate ignition timing for your performance engine.

Vacuum advance applications: LC Engineering recommends setting the initial timing at 6°- 8° with the engine running below 1000 rpm and total timing of 28°- 32° w/o vacuum(34°- 36° w/vacuum connected) at 2500-3000 rpm. The LC Pro Distributor will add approx. 10° of vacuum advance and 18°- 20° of mechanical advance.

Non-vacuum advance applications: LC Engineering recommends setting the initial timing at 10°- 14° with the engine running below 1000 rpm and total timing of 28°- 32° at 2500-3000 rpm. The LC Pro Distributor will add approx. 18°- 20° of mechanical advance by 2000-2200 rpm.

LC Engineering recommends using a delay timing light to set total timing. Run engine at 2500-3000 RPM when setting total timing with a delay light. For LC Pro Distributors with Vacuum Advance, remove and plug vacuum hose before setting the initial or total timing. The pick-up air gap should be set between .007" and .010" on either distributor. This setting should be made with a non-ferrous (not magnetic) feeler gauge for accuracy. The LC Pro Distributors may be used with a factory igniter, LC Pro Crane Ignition Kits, or most other high output ignitions. Remove the negative battery cable before doing any modifications to your ignition system.

All above instructions are guidelines provided by LC Engineering based on years of research and development. Certain applications may vary from these guidelines slightly. LC Engineering strongly suggests that any modifications or maintenance done to the ignition system are done by a qualified technician. LCE also recommends that you check the timing and tuning of your vehicle, especially any hi performance application, often to avoid any possible engine malfunctions or failure.

Distributor Polarity: Positive wire is white. Negative wire is red. Be sure to confirm polarity when installing any aftermarket ignition kit (Crane, MSD etc"¦). Crossing wires will cause timing and tuning problems!

NOTE: LC Pro Distributors will use LC Engineerings Pro Cap and Rotor: Part #1081060 Cap and #1081057 Rotor.

NO doubt do not overlook this Blazing time keeper. Make sure your running the proper fuel for your application, if not you'll need to retard that timing hard. My motor should get fuel of around 106 octane rating, I'm running fuel of 95-97 octane, she's my daily driver so cost is an issue. The insructions state a timing setting of 10-14 at idle. With the old distributor timing was set at 4 BTDC. With Pro Distributor set timing at 1 BTDC my compression ratio is to high for the grade of fuel I'm running, any more advance than that and a hard knock is experienced upon acceleration. In the very near future I'm installing a thicker head Gasket to decrease compression and a milder cam to increase bottom end and provide me with a better smoother power curve for daily driving. Summary, I'm very Happy with this purchase, should have done it many miles ago. Huge difference when accelerating, spools right up. Easy installation, do it right check wire polarity and solder the wires.
