By injecting a finely atomized mist of water or a water/methanol blend directly into the intake tract, this system cools incoming air by up to 60°C (140°F) without creating the intake restrictions common with traditional air-to-air intercoolers.

The physical cooling effect suppresses combustion chamber hot spots, effectively raising the octane rating of standard 95-octane pump gas to a race-ready 116-octane equivalent. This allows forced-induction (turbocharged or supercharged) applications to safely sustain higher boost levels and advanced ignition timing for an immediate 10% to 25% power increase. Naturally aspirated engines also benefit, gaining up to 10% more power while recovering performance typically lost to severe summer heat soak.
