Billet Valve Cover Hardware Installation Guide

Follow these steps to safely remove your factory hardware and install your new LCE Billet Valve Cover Hardware Kit.

  1. Remove Factory Hardware: Back off and remove the factory acorn nut, then pull the stock rubber valve cover grommet off the stud.
  2. Extract the Factory Stud: Using the double-nut method outlined below, back the factory stud out of the cylinder head.
  3. Install the New Stud: Thread the new stud into the rocker shaft stand, ensuring the side with the short threads faces down into the stand.
  4. Place the Billet Spacer: Slide your new hand-polished billet spacer over the installed stud.
  5. Secure the Assembly: Thread the new chrome acorn nut onto the stud and tighten it until it is snug (hand-tight).

The Double-Nut Stud Method

If you don't own a dedicated stud removal tool, you can easily remove and install studs using two standard nuts:

  • Lock the Nuts: Thread one 8mm x 1.25 nut halfway onto the stud. Thread a second nut onto the stud right above it. Using two box wrenches, tighten the two nuts securely against one another until they lock in place.
  • To Remove a Stud: Place your wrench on the bottom nut (the one closest to the engine block) and turn counterclockwise. Because the nuts are locked together, turning the bottom nut will back the entire stud out of the block.
  • To Install a Stud: Reverse the process. Lock the two nuts near the top of the new stud, place your wrench on the top nut, and turn clockwise to thread the stud into the block.
