Start With the Year: 1985-1988 or 1989-1995

Toyota changed the 22RE fuel system partway through, and it is the single most common ordering error on this page. Throttle bodies, throttle body elbows, cold start injector time switches, fuel pumps, pressure regulators and injector caps all split at roughly 1988. Check the year of the engine in front of you rather than the title on the truck.

Throttle Bodies: Four Options, Not One Upgrade Path

LCE Billet Big Bore — the main upgrade

Machined from billet aluminium with a 58 mm (2.287") bore against the factory 55 mm (2.165"), which increases airflow by 12% and shows up as throttle response and acceleration rather than a peak-power number. It ships with an upgraded Teflon throttle body gasket and a replacement o-ring for the idle air control compensator. No core charge.

It is not California smog legal. If you register in California, stop here and look at the air intake options instead, which are.

Throttle body spacer — the cheaper step

A 1" billet spacer with a spiral bore that agitates the incoming air to improve fuel atomisation, opening out to 59.3 mm. Rated at 5 HP. Includes the throttle cable bracket relocation plate, hardware and one of our Teflon gaskets to cut heat transfer from the manifold. Note the same emissions caveat applies. 1989-1995 · 1983-1988.

Sidedraft throttle bodies — the individual-runner route

For a built engine, individual throttle bodies in 40 mm or 45 mm: 22R/RE and 20R. Serious airflow, serious tuning.

Keeping the factory unit

The throttle body rebuild kit will restore a gummed-up original. Also here: the throttle body gasket, the Teflon heat isolation gasket, the stainless idle speed adjusting screw, and the rubber elbow in 1989-1995 and 1984-1988 fitments.

Injectors

The equalized and flow-matched 750cc injector set is individually flow-tested so every cylinder gets the same delivery, and it is a true direct fit — it plugs into the factory harness with no adapter clips, pigtails or wiring changes. The 750cc rating is there to support higher horsepower and forced-induction builds.

Supporting parts split by injector type: caps for 1988-1995 Type E and F and 1983-1987 Type C and turbo; connectors for Type E and F and Type C, Bosch and turbo. Plus the o-ring, grommet and isolator kit and the injector cup set — the parts that are always brittle when you pull a rail off a thirty-year-old engine.

Fuel Rails

Anodized rails in black and silver. If you are running an aftermarket regulator, the -6AN fitting for the regulator and the -6AN inlet fitting are the adapters you will need. Also here: the rail union bolt and the fuel filter union.

Fuel Supply

In-tank pumps split by year: OE for 1985-1991 and the Denso for 1992-1995. Pressure regulators the same way: 1985-1987 and 1988-1995. The EFI fuel filter covers 1983-1995.

Diagnostics and pressure control: the fuel pressure gauge kit with its bolt kit, GlowShift electronic gauges in 30 psi and 100 psi and as a complete kit, plus the fuel injection pressure damper and its washer.

Idle Control, Cold Start and Sensors

If the truck idles badly when cold or hunts when warm, this is the section. The idle air compensator valve for 1989-1995 and its o-ring, the A/C idle-up valve for 1988-1995, and the IAC bypass hoses: coolant bypass #1, #2, the 1985-1988 IAC valve bypass hose and the throttle body to lower intake bypass hose.

Cold start injector time switches split by year — 1984-1987 and 1989-1995 — or delete the circuit entirely with the cold start injector block plate kit.

For the throttle position sensor, the TPS plug with pigtail for 1989-1995 and the TPS allen bolt upgrade kit, which replaces the factory screws that round off the first time anyone tries to adjust them.

Whole Packages

If you would rather buy the result than assemble it, the EFI Power Package for 1989-1995 is aimed squarely at the truck that cannot hold speed on a grade in 4th, 5th or overdrive. It combines tuned exhaust scavenging, increased intake plenum volume and a street-friendly camshaft for a 20-30 horsepower gain while keeping everyday drivability. Manifold Hardware

EFI-specific manifold parts: the Teflon intake manifold gasket set, the stud kit, the plug kit and the heater tube that runs under the manifold — the last one being far easier to replace while the manifold is already off.
