22RE Throttle Position Sensor Replacement Pigtail

As a factory support for the classic 22RE platform begins to phase out, keeping your truck on the road requires high-quality alternatives. After 20+ years of engine heat and environmental exposure, plastic connectors become brittle and prone to failure.

We have partnered with SNP Speed Innovations to provide these premium, 100% new TPS connectors. Each plug comes pre-wired as a pigtail, making it ready to splice directly into your factory harness for a secure, OE-quality repair.

  • Quality:100% New, Factory-Grade Materials.
  • Design: Precision molded to resist heat and vibration.
  • Compatibility: 1989-1995 Toyota 22RE

Important Fitment Notes

  • If you own a 1989 model, please verify your connector style before ordering. This pigtail is designed for the later round-style plug; it will not fit the earlier square-style connectors.

LC Engineering Big Bore Throttle Body Installation & TPS Adjustment

    1. Critical Hardware Check: TPS Drive Blade

    • Before installation, compare the TPS drive blade on your new LC Engineering throttle body to your original unit. The blade engages the sensor to the throttle shaft.
    • If they do not match: Loosen the hold-down bolt and swap the blade from your original throttle body onto the new unit.

    2. Preparation & Cleaning

Ensure the throttle body is clean before adjusting. Sludge or oily residue from the EGR system can prevent the throttle plate from closing fully, leading to incorrect TPS readings.

-Note: If using solvent for heavy cleaning, remove the TPS first to prevent internal contamination and failure.

    3. Installation & Stop Screw Adjustment

The throttle stop screw must be set before adjusting the TPS.

    • Loosen the jam nut and unscrew the stop screw until the throttle blade is fully closed.
    • Turn the screw in until it touches the linkage, then turn an additional 1/4 turn.
    • Tighten the jam nut. This 1/4 turn prevents the blade from sticking against the bore.

    4. TPS Calibration Procedure

The 22RE uses a linear TPS (0-5V Range). Proper adjustment is critical for throttle response, timing, and shifting.

    • Mounting: Install the TPS onto the throttle body. Keep the mounting screws slightly snug so you can "tap" the sensor into position.
    • Testing: Use an ohmmeter and feeler gauges on the TPS pins (see chart below).
    • Adjustment: Rotate the TPS on its base until it meets the resistance values for the specified gap.

-Tip: Move the throttle shaft from idle to WOT; resistance (VTA-E2) should increase steadily without "dead spots" or abrupt drops.

    5. Dash Pot Adjustment

The dash pot prevents backfiring by slowing the throttle's closing speed.

    • Setting: Adjust the plunger so it first contacts the linkage approximately halfway back from Wide Open Throttle (WOT).
    • Maintenance: Clean the air filter/check valve with soapy water (never carburetor cleaner). Use dry silicone spray if the plunger sticks.

    Recommended Upgrade

TPS Allen Head Bolt Kit (Part #1093082)

    • Adjusting the TPS while installed is nearly impossible with stock Phillip screws. This kit replaces them with Allen head bolts, allowing you to use a ball-end wrench at an angle for much easier calibration.
