The 5VZ-FE is the 3.4-litre V6 Toyota built from 1995 to 2004, and it is the engine that carried the Tacoma, 4Runner, T100 and first-generation Tundra through their best years. Cast-iron block, aluminium DOHC heads, timing belt, 24 valves. It replaced the 3VZ-E and fixed most of what people disliked about it.
LC Engineering has built Toyota engines since 1985, and the 3.4 is one of our deepest platforms. Everything below is a 5VZ part we actually stock, grouped by what you are trying to do rather than by part number.
Main Bearing Set
These bearings for the 5VZ and 3VZ engines are factory replacement bearings. These factory replacement bearings offer the reliability and durability that you expect from LC...
Viton Valve Seals
Viton Valve Seals are the latest in valve seal material, surpassing Teflon! Heat resistant to 440 degrees, they eliminate oil consumption through the valve guide and provide...
Header Stud Set
The factory exhaust manifold studs have a shoulder in the center that can interfere with proper header tightening. Our 10mm x 1.25 x 48mm long, heat-treated plated header mounting...
Exhaust Valve
(Stainless Steel / Stock Size 27.5mm)
These stainless valves are the highest level of sophistication in valve technology. Extremely heat resistant and designed for use in race engines...
Intake Valve
(Stainless Steel / Stock Size 34mm)
These stainless valves are the highest level of sophistication in valve technology. Extremely heat resistant and designed for use in race engines...
OEM Flywheel Bolt
Connect that flywheel with confidence. These OEM flywheel bolts are just what the doctor ordered to connect your flywheel to your engine. They have a black oxide finish to help...
Brass Freeze Plug
At the beginning of any complete engine build-up, the block needs to be cleaned. To do that, all of the block's plugs must be removed (even with a new engine) to allow cleaning...
Thermostat
(180 Degree)
Reduced engine temperatures add life to your engine and provide a denser air/fuel mixture which helps produce more horsepower. Consistent control of engine temperature...
Street Rod Bushing Set
Any time you remove your connecting rods it is an excellent idea to change out the wrist pin bushings. After a while, the bushings will wear out causing the piston to "walk"...
Intake Manifold Gasket Set
Restore factory-grade sealing and prevent power-robbing vacuum leaks with this premium Original Equipment (OE) replacement intake manifold gasket set. Custom-engineered...
Fuel Filter
When was the last time you changed your fuel filter? Toyota recommends changing it out every 30,000 miles, but some prefer changing theirs every 15,000 for many reasons. LC Engineering...
Rear Main Seal
OEM replacement rear main seal. This will install on the big end of the crankshaft. If there is a large groove on the crank seal surface be sure to get our seal saver for...
A 3.4 is a 3.4 across all four. Most engine internals interchange, which is why one part often shows a fitment list covering several trucks. You will see the engine written 5VZ-FE, 5VZFE or just 5VZ depending on who is writing it — and plenty of people simply call it the 3.4. They are all the same engine.
Replace It — Long Blocks and Crate Engines
If the engine is tired, cracked or apart on a bench, this is where most people land. Our Stage 1 5VZ Long Block is a complete, ready-to-install engine, not a kit of parts. It is built here on OEM-based architecture with ported and polished cylinder heads, stainless Supertech valves, ARP head studs and precision-machined internals.
People search for this as a “5VZ crate engine”, and that is a fair description — it arrives as a finished long block ready to drop in. Browse the full long block range if you want to compare specifications.
Be honest with yourself about which route you are on. A long block costs more up front than a rebuild kit and saves you the machine shop, the assembly time and the risk of a mistake you only find at start-up. If the truck is a daily driver and you need it back this month, the long block is usually the cheaper answer once your own time is priced in.
Build It — Heads and Valvetrain
The 5VZ responds well to head work, and it is where the meaningful power on this engine lives. The Pro Cylinder Head Set for the 5VZ-FE is our ported and assembled pair, supplied without cams so you can match camshafts to the rest of the build.
The High Performance Pro Valve Train Kit covers springs, retainers and the supporting hardware — do this at the same time as the heads rather than after, because the engine has to come apart either way.
More top-end parts are under engine top end, and our full LCE cylinder head range covers the other Toyota platforms if you are working on more than one truck.
Boost It — Supercharger and Turbo
Forced induction is the single biggest change available to a 3.4, and it is what most people come to us for.
The factory TRD supercharger for this engine has been discontinued for years, which is why so many searches for it end nowhere. The current answer is the Magnuson 3.4L Supercharger System for the 1995-2004 5VZ-FE — an intercooled positive-displacement system that works with the factory engine management rather than fighting it.
One order-of-operations note we give everyone: if the engine has real miles on it, refresh the bottom end before you add boost. Forced induction finds every tired ring land and marginal head gasket an engine has, and it finds them quickly.
Let It Breathe — Headers and Exhaust
The factory exhaust manifolds are the restriction on a stock 3.4. Our Tacoma 3.4 headers are the common starting point, and the wider LCE-made header range covers the other platforms.
Doing a swap into an older chassis? The LCE Engine Swap Header is cut specifically for putting a newer 5VZ into a Pickup or older 4Runner, which is a fitment no off-the-shelf header solves.
Maintain It
The 3.4 is a durable engine that asks for a few specific things on schedule.
The timing belt is the big one. This engine uses a belt, not a chain, and the water pump is driven by it. Replace them together — the labour is nearly all shared, and doing the belt alone means paying for the same teardown twice when the pump goes. Our 5VZ Timing Belt Kit covers it.
Putting a 3.4 V6 into a truck that came with a 22R-E is one of the most popular swaps in the Toyota world, and for good reason: roughly sixty percent more power in a chassis that was designed around the same drivetrain architecture.
This is a real project, not a weekend job — wiring, fuel, cooling and driveline all need attention. Call us before you buy parts for it. We would rather spend twenty minutes on the phone than have you discover the gap halfway through.
Related engines: the 3RZ-FE and 2RZ-FE four-cylinders shared these same trucks, and the 3VZ-E is the 3.4's predecessor — a number of parts cross over between them.
Tell us the truck, the year, the mileage and what you want it to do, and we will tell you honestly which of the routes above fits — including when the answer is a rebuild kit rather than our long block. We work on these engines every day and we would rather sell you the right part once than the wrong part twice.
