When Toyota originally engineered the 20R and 22R engine blocks, they did not anticipate the extreme mechanical stresses of modern high-performance builds generating 185+ horsepower and massive torque loads. Through decades of developing and raving high-output 4-cylinder Toyota powerplants, critical weak spots have been identified in the engine block casting-particularly around the engine mount bosses. Under sever acceleration or in rigid chassis configurations with minimal flex, these concentrated stress points are prone to catastrophic cracking and block failure.
The Pro Block Brace kit is a vital safety and structural upgrade engineered for circle track racing, rock crawling, and heavy-duty 1/2" thick steel, this brace bolts directly to the oil filter side of the engine block. By bridging the mounting layout, it disperses extreme twisting forces across a significantly larger surface area of the block casting rather than concentrating the energy entirely on the factory engine mount holes.

The Pro Block Brace Kit is an essential structural upgrade for competitive racing and extreme-performance applications. Engineered to eliminate structural deflection, it significantly reduces the risk of catastrophic block breakage caused by the immense torque and high horsepower generated by fully built race engines. Rather than allowing destructive twisting forces to concentrate solely on the factory engine mount bosses, the Pro Block Brace disperses the load evenly across the entire surface area of the engine block casting.
Installation Instructions
Required Prep & Component Removal
- Locate Mounting Area: The block brace installs directly onto the oil filter side (passenger side) of the engine block.
- Clear Access: Remove the factory motor mount and any auxiliary brackets that obstruct or limit access to the side of the engine block. Clean the mounting bosses thoroughly to remove dirt, grease, or rust.
Brace & Hardware Mock-Up
- Align the Brace: Position the Pro Block Brace against the block bolt bosses using the premium hardware provided in the kit.
- Secure to Block: Bolt the block brace securely to the engine block casting, ensuring it sits entirely flush against the surface.
- Install Motor Mount Studs: Thread the provided heavy-duty 10mm studs directly into the brace to secure the motor mount bracket.
Frame Alignment
- Modify Pedestal Location: Because 1/2" thickness of the brace offsets the mount outward, you must reposition or modify the motor mount location on the vehicle frame/pedestal as required to achieve proper powertrain alignment before final torque-down.
