Trail-Gear Rock Assault Power Steering Kit
Once you complete a solid axle swap (SAS) on your 1995-2004 Tacoma, upgrading your factory steering system is critical to handling massive trail tires. While the stock power steering pump performs adequately for factory independent Front Suspension (IFS) setups and standard tire sizes, it lacks the fluid volume and pressure required to quickly cycle heavy steering links on the trail-especially when pared with hydraulic assists.
The Trail-Gear Rock Assault Power Steering Upgrade Kit provides a complete, high-volume solution. Available specifically for 2.7L (3RZ-FE) and 3.4L (5VZ-FE) Tacoma applications, each kit includes a heavy-duty, all-steel TC-style pump alongside precision-engineered brackets, high-pressure lines, and all necessary installation hardware to get the job done right the first time.
Key Features & Technical Specifications
Massive Output Increase: Engineered to dramatically boost fluid flow and line pressure, ensuring effortless turning under extreme off-road binds:
-
- 2.7L Engine Kit: Delivers 4.0 GPM of flow at 1,450 PSI.
- 3.4L Engine Kit: Delivers 4.5 GPM of flow at 1,650 PSI.
- Heavy-Duty Construction: Features a rugged, all-steel TC-style performance pump that runs cooler and handles severe structural loads better than factory aluminum units.
- Complete Bolt-On Kit: Includes vehicle-specific engine mounting brackets, high-and low-pressure hoses, reservoirs, and premium hardware.
- Trail-Proven Performance: Yields lightning-fast steering response, eliminating the sluggish, heavy steering wheel from common on SAS-swapped trucks.
Critical Application & Fitment Notes
- Hydraulic Systems Only: This high-output kit is strictly recommended for vehicles running Ram Assist (Hydro-Assist) or Full Hydro steering setups.
- Steering Box Safety: Operating this high-volume pump with a standard standalone steering box (without ram assist) can cause over-pressurization and fatigue or fracture the steering box housing.
- Factory Rack Notice: This kit is not designed for, nor compatible with, the stock Toyota rack-and-pinion steering assembly.
