Exhaust and Headers Come First
The 2UZ-FE 4.7-liter V8 is a genuinely good engine held back by restrictive factory exhaust manifolds. Headers are the single change that wakes it up most, and it is where owners consistently start.
Our Sequoia header kits come in year-split and coating-split options:
- 2000-2004 JBA header kit, silver ceramic
- 2000-2004 JBA header kit, titanium ceramic
- 2005-2006 JBA header kit, stainless steel
The 2005 change is real, not cosmetic — Toyota revised the 2UZ with VVT-i for 2005, and the earlier headers do not fit. Behind the headers, the 2001-2006 Sequoia 4.7L Magnaflow exhaust finishes the system, or browse cat-back exhaust options.
Brakes Before Power
A 5,000 lb wagon on larger tires needs brakes before it needs horsepower, and the 1st gen Sequoia is under-braked from the factory once tire size goes up. The StopTech 4-piston rear big brake kit covers 2003-2009 Sequoia along with the 4Runner, FJ Cruiser and GX 470. See all brake upgrade kits.
Lift, Intake and Lighting
For ride height and tire clearance, browse 1st gen Sequoia lift kits. On the intake side the K&N 77 Series FIPK for the 2005-2007 4.7L is a straightforward pairing with headers and exhaust.
For lighting, we carry both head and tail lights — a common replacement at this age, since factory housings haze and crack — and off-road lighting.
A Note on Tundra Overlap
The 1st gen Sequoia shares its platform and drivetrain with the 2000-2006 Tundra, which is why many parts here are listed for both. If you cannot find something on this page, check the 1st gen Tundra catalog — it is frequently the same part. Browse the rest by system: suspension, drivetrain, body and steering.
