Toyota 22R, 22RE, 22RTE Engine Torque Specifications

Factory and LC Engineering torque specifications for the Toyota 20R, 22R, 22RE, and 22RTE engines. Use these values any time you're reassembling one of these engines — for a top-end refresh, a full rebuild, or a targeted repair like a head gasket or timing chain job.

LC Engineering Pro Tip: Use a calibrated torque wrench. A wrench that's off by 15% turns a 62 ft-lb head bolt into a 53 ft-lb or 71 ft-lb bolt — either one can cause head gasket failure over time. If your wrench hasn't been calibrated in the last 12 months, either send it in for calibration or replace it before starting a rebuild.

Rebuilding your 22R, 22RE, or 22RTE? LC Engineering stocks head bolt kits, main and rod bearing kits, complete engine gasket sets, and full rebuild kits for the entire 22R family — the fasteners and gaskets that go with these torque specs.
