Every overland build starts as a weight problem. A roof tent, a drawer system, water, fuel, and recovery gear can add several hundred pounds before you have packed a single tool, and a forty year old leaf pack was never sprung for it. Sagging rear springs are the most common thing we see on loaded 4th gen Pickups, and they take ride quality, steering geometry, and brake balance down with them. Steering and Front End - Check This Before You Leave
This is the section most build guides skip, and it is the one that strands people. Ball joints on a 4th gen Pickup wear out quietly, and added front weight from a bumper and winch accelerates it. A failed lower ball joint on a loaded truck a long way from pavement is not a roadside repair.
Body damage a long way from town costs you time more than money. Steel protection also gives you somewhere to mount recovery points, lights, and a winch, which is why it usually comes before the accessories it carries. Our bumpers and sliders options shield the critical areas of your Pickup.
Order matters here. Fit the front bumper before the winch, and sort the torsion bars after the bumper goes on, not before.
Fuel Range, Recovery and Light
Range is the constraint that ends most trips early. The LCE Auxiliary Fuel Tank adds real distance between fill-ups without strapping jerry cans to the outside of the truck, where they cook in the sun and catch on brush.
